GSL’s Report 2011-12

We kicked off this year with a really busy start with Scouts, Cubs and Beavers already having undergone camps this year. Numbers in all sections as usual are all at a good capacity thanks to our great leadership team and programmes that they put on.

During the year we had a DIY event when The Orange Rock Corp came with over a Hundred young people and Pimped our HQ as well as numerous numbers of parents and children that came from our group on the day and also who supported us on various DIY weekends throughout the Year! A huge thank you to you all. There is still a lot to do so please keep a look out for the updated DIY lists on the Notice boards and sign up for our forthcoming DIY weekends to improve our Headquarters.

The most memorable event this year would have to be the Queen’s Visit to Harrow of which 60 young people and 5 Leaders from our Group attended – the largest single attendance by any of the youth organisations by over 50%, and I am proud to say they all behaved themselves impeccably and were very smartly turned out, well done to all of you that attended as well as a huge Thank You to all those Leaders that participated for giving up their time and for organising everything on the day.

Following this our next main Group event is the Dragon Boat Racing at the end of September, we had some new Dads join our team last year and did very well, hope to see you back this year along with some new members. We will be putting two boats in this year one in the mixed category which is 50% Adults and 50% Children under the age of 15.The next category we will be entering is the Under 24s, so if you are interested or would like to have a go please see any leader and put your name down or even come along and support us on the day it is a fantastic adrenaline fun packed family day out, in superb surroundings on Henley on the Thames at Marlow.

Yes and if that is not enough we have our very popular Firework Display on the Saturday 3rd November this year with Rifle Shooting, Archery, disco, Stalls, Licensed Bar, and BBQ. So put all the dates in your Diary and come along and join us and have a great time.

The above is only a small snip it of what we have in-store for you and your family this year there will be many other events and camps being run in all sections for everyone to take part in or for your young people to enjoy. These are all  being put on and supported by our excellent Leadership Team without whom would not be possible, they do not only run the section nights but also do a huge amount of work behind the scenes, ie programming, organising events and camps etc and this Group would not be where it is today without their dedication.

I would like to say many thanks to all the Leaders and helpers who are all VOLUNTEERS and a lot of the time get very little recognition for what they do and of course no payment for all the many, many hours they put in to develop the Group and young people within it.

Last year Christians against Poverty was our Charity for the year which we raised £250 for. Many thanks for all that supported our Quiz night that helped raise this money.
