2012-2013 has been yet another fantastic year with yet more successful outings in all sections.
Where to start; well first we have unfortunately seen some leaders leave and on the other hand we have had new leaders join us. We say goodbye to Louise Bull, Assistant Cub Leader who has left us to go to the USA to get married, and we say welcome to Dave Logan, Assistant Scout Leader.
Our group numbers speak volumes, being in the top three groups of the District and nearly full capacity in all sections with waiting lists growing all the time. Another reason I would like to draw your attention to is the parents that give up a lot of their time as volunteers on our Executive Committee and other elected roles such as Secretary, Treasurer, Electrician, Nursery Committee and our Chairman. They all work tirelessly on your behalf to help run and maintain our building and develop the group to aid and support the leaders to provide a well-balanced surrounding and programmes for your young people to excel.
This year without exception has already proved to be action packed as the years before with events such as PGL Winter Camp, Easter Egg Hunt, Visit to the Mayor, Snow Dome Sledging, with yet more exciting events in all sections yet to occur in our next year such as Family Camp, Alton Towers Camp, Summer Camp, Dragon Boating and our ever popular Firework Display and Disco Evening.
We have raised £250 for out ‘Charity of the Year’ ‘Tree of Hope Charity’ for two twins, Rebecca and Jack Latham, who have Diplegic Cerebral Palsy to learn to walk and for physio afterwards (for more information please visit their website: www.dreamtowalk.co.uk). Thank you to all who attended the quiz night to help raise this fantastic amount.
This year we will be focusing on further improvements to the building and hopefully will raise enough money to renew the heating system. Thank you to everyone that has helped to continue to make 6th Harrow what it is – a brilliant family oriented scout group.
All events are supported by our excellent Leadership Team without whom they would not be possible, they not only run the section nights but also do a huge amount of work behind the scenes, ie programming, organising events and camps etc and this Group would not be where it is today without their dedication. I would like to say many thanks to all the Leaders and helpers who are all VOLUNTEERS and a lot of the time get very little recognition for what they do and of course no payment for all the many, many hours they put in to develop the Group and young people within it.
I would like to end my report with a HUGE thank you to Karen for getting us the Lotto funding money each year and for all her dedication to the group – thankfully, she is not leaving us but redirecting her energy to focus on a ‘soon to arrive’ special addition to the Burley family, whilst also helping with the admin side of Scouts.
Forthcoming Group / Family Events
2 November 2013 – Firework & Disco Evening
10 November 2013 – Remembrance Day Parade
The Firework evening is our main fundraiser for the year, ALL money raised goes back into the Group to help and support our young people, so please help where ever you can.
