Until I met my fiancée’s sister, Emily, I had very little contact with anybody with learning difficulties. Meeting Emily, I discovered the full extent of her world and the support required to give her the opportunity to live a great life.
Emily has truly opened my eyes to the fact that people with varying degrees of learning difficulties are still people with likes and dislikes, and with a huge amount of individuality. It takes selfless work from those who support her in addition to her adoring family who want nothing but the best for her, it is also the work and time invested from those at MENCAP that have made a magical difference in her life.
Running the London Marathon is something I have wanted to do for many years now, so the fact that I have the honour of running in the name of MENCAP is fantastic – and true motivation for the painful training.
